Solvent-regulated ordering in block copolymers

چکیده
Studies of the structural polymorphism exhibited by block copolymers in the presence of selective solvents are relatively recent, but very promising in terms of fundamental understanding and practical applications. Highlighting recent advances, this review progresses from ‘dry’ ordered ( ) copolymers to solvated ordered gel-like copolymers and ( ) lastly to solvated disordered but locally organized copolymers. Organicand aqueous-solvent-based systems are concurrently examined to cross-fertilize polymer and colloid science.

Kinetically controlled nanostructure formation in self-assembled globular protein-polymer diblock copolymers.
Aqueous processing of globular protein-polymer diblock copolymers into solid-state materials and subsequent solvent annealing enables kinetic and thermodynamic control of nanostructure formation to produce block copolymer morphologies that maintain a high degree of protein fold and function. When model diblock copolymers composed of mCherry-b-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) are used, orthogonal con...

All-conjugated block copolymers are an emerging class of polymeric materials promising for organic electronic applications, but further progress requires a better understanding of their microstructure including crystallinity and self-assembly through micro-phase segregation. Here, we demonstrate remarkable changes in the thin film structure of a model series of all-conjugated block copolymers w...

متن کاملHighly Ordered Nanoporous Thin Films by Blending of PSt-b-PMMA Block Copolymers and PEO Additives as Structure Directing Agents
Herein, we present a simple method for producing nanoporous templates with a high degree of lateral ordering by self-assembly of block copolymers. A key feature of this approach is control of the orientation of polymeric microdomains through the use of hydrophilic additives as structure directing agents. Incorporation of hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) moieties into poly(styrene-b-methyl...

The self-assembly processes of miktoarm star-like block copolymers (Ax1)y-C-(Bx2)y, in which y homopolymer chains of type A with chain length x1 as well as y chains of type B with chain length x2 are connected to a center core C, are investigated by using Brownian dynamics simulations. We focus on the selective solvent condition, i.e., the solvent is poor for components B and C, but varies from...
